Malachy Godfrey is the owner of Car Trek (The Karaoke Cab). He was born in Ashford, Middlesex, England and was raised there before moving to the USA in 1996. Other than enjoying singing with customers in his cab, Malachy has also been a science and math teacher and worked in various sales positions over the last few decades.
During his college years, and as a young adult, he was involved as stage and lighting crew with a variety of theatre productions, mostly in the West End district of London, England. Some of the productions worked on were "Little Shop of Horrors", "Macbeth", "Blood Brothers", "Phantom of the Opera" and "Rocky Horror Show".
In the summer of 1992, Malachy had the good fortune to be at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles and got got to be an extra on an episode of Star Trek : The Next Generation (Season 6, Episode 1, "Time's Arrow Part II"). During this time, Malachy's love of science fiction led him to also become the editor for a sci-fi / fantasy publication called "Hypo-Space", until he completed college.
Life being what it is, Malachy got out of theatre related projects and focused on his teaching and sales career before starting his Karaoke Cab business back in 2004. Over the years the vehicle and karaoke equipment has certainly evolved but the basic idea has always remained the same. Crank up the music, show them lyrics on screen, and let them belt out their favorite songs.
In 2006, Malachy got to briefly revisit his love of theatre at the Old Towne Playhouse in Traverse City. Previously having worked on "Rocky Horror Show" behind the scenes as stage crew, he decided to "change it up a little" and this time played one of the party guests / Time Warp dancers on the same production. In 2011 he got to appear in the Traverse City Lip Dub as a juggler on a street corner.
Finally, in 2018, Malachy came full circle and became involved with an 80s science fiction movie documentary, as a producer, called "In Search of Tomorrow". COVID proved to be a blessing in disguise since it allowed a solid block of time to work remotely when it was not possible to give taxi rides, except to essential workers.
After finishing up that project, Malachy got a taste for working with movies and television productions and, along with Car Trek Productions, is involved in many different movie projects that have either been completed or have varying anticipated completion dates over the next few years. If you would like to learn more about any of these projects, feel free to visit our Movies page below.
"May the Force Be With You"... "Live Long and Prosper"... and above all "Party on Dudes!"
Here is a small sampling of some of the sci-fi and fantasy related movie projects that Malachy (and Car Trek Productions) have worked on in the past or have in the pipeline over the next few years. Enjoy!
